About Me

I spent four amazing years at Virginia Military Institute, where I received my B.A. in English with concentrations in Literature and Rhetoric and Writing with Distinction and Departmental Honors. While I was there, I worked as the ERHS-Fieldwork Intern and TA while completing an Honors Thesis and working as the Fiction Editor for Cadence, the VMI creative journal. I also spent the summer of 2021 interning as an English tutor with the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty and the summer of 2022 studying abroad with the Virginia Program at Oxford.

Currently, I serve as a College Advisor with the Virginia College Advising Corps. Last year, I worked at Tunstall High School as the Adviser and Girls Track Coach and this year, I am working at Rustburg High School. Over the summer, I also served as a Pre-Service Training Facilitator, designing and implementing Experiential Learning curriculum to train incoming Advisers. I also had the privilege to serve on the founding board of the Advisor Mentor Program and to create and run the 2025 Adviser Winter Book Club.

This upcoming fall, I will begin graduate study at Wake Forest University, working to earn my M.A. in English. I cannot possibly be more ecstatic to begin this new phase of life and to take a step in my career.

When I am not studying or working, I enjoy traveling to various National and State Parks. Last summer, my family and I traveled to Yosemite to hike Half Dome and backpack Hetch Hetchy Valley up to Beehive Meadow. This summer, my fiancé and I went on a road trip to various cities and then joined family to explore the Smokey Mountains and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway (including a stop at Grandfather Mountain). After work, you can typically catch me getting coffee with friends; reading the latest romantasy book; walking my pup, Maverick; or running and lifting

About Me

My name is Rachel Mininger and I am an English Literature enthusiast. In 2023, I graduated from Virginia Military Institute with Distinction and Departmental Honors in English. I also earned concentrations in Literary Studies and Writing and Rhetoric. I currently work as a High School College Advisor, but my long-term goal is to continue my Literary research as a professor. So here, you will find some of my previous work and my current curiosities. Some of my favorite areas of interest that I write about here are American Transcendentalism, Romanticism, and Victorian Gothic. When I am not studying or working, you can normally find me hiking, running, or reading fantasy and romance novels.
